Welcome to my monthly income report for August.

This month had many distractions, and I wasn’t able to do as much as I had hoped.

My ill health continued for much of the month. After a visit to A&E, I realised that I had had an allergic reaction to medication I was taking. Not very nice at all, I can tell you!

I felt like I didn’t want to work on my blog or my creative work. Things did really come to a standstill.

However, this income report is a true account of what happens when life gets in the way. Sometimes things just don’t get done and there are consequences to that.

Here I give you a breakdown of what successes I had (and failures), in the hope that you can learn from them.

Please note that I am an affiliate to some of the products. This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, then I will receive an affiliate commission (at no additional cost to you). I only ever recommend things I have used and that I believe are helpful and useful.

But first, why am I producing these income reports?

My reason for publishing an income report is three-fold.

Firstly, I want to be able to show you what is going on behind the scenes in my online business and how I’m working towards a steady income online. I want to show you how I’m doing it in the hope that it will inspire you to do the same.

Secondly, I want to be able to keep a track of my finances, and see which steps have created the best results. This way I can learn from it and you can to.

Thirdly, it will give me the motivation to keep going and exploring new options. It’s only when we are accountable that we really push ourselves!

Here are the income reports I’ve done so far if you want to read those:

If you find that you are you are interested in starting your own website, then why not check out how easy you can set one up. I wrote a step-by-step guide to setting up a website. I recommend using Bluehost as your website provider. You can check them out here.

Ok, so let’s dive right into the income report for August…

This is for money made in the month of August, but not necessarily paid into my bank account.

CreateSpace royalties for my Inspirational Quotes Adult Colouring Book = £37.21
Google AdSense = £0.42
Amazon Affiliates = £0.00
My Etsy shop = £1.50

Total Earnings = £39.13

Emails (Convertkit) – £22.99
• Very nearly $450 dollars!!! For the last two years, I have paid for MeetEdgar (a social media management system) however I realised I hadn’t been using it that much. I thought I had cancelled the payment, but it went through as an automatic renewal. Luckily, the customer service team were very helpful and reversed the card payment. Lesson learnt!

NET PROFIT: £16.14

Proof Of Income

Here is a snapshot of my income on CreateSpace. Slow and steady wins the race.

Google AdSense is very low at the moment, but the potential could be huge.

I was really happy with my sale from my Etsy store.

What Went Well

I am still happy with my Inspirational Quotes colouring book sales considering that I didn’t do any marketing in August. It’s just been word of mouth really.

Also, when I speak to people, they really enjoy the images and the joy they get from colouring them in. I just need a few more Amazon reviews now.

One of the things I did do, was to add a few of the colouring book images to my Etsy store. I feel that it’s good to have a variety of mediums for people to choose from. And also, Etsy has a very different audience to Amazon.

I was super excited to log into my Etsy store and see I had made a sale. It has definitely got me motivated to add some more images. You can click here to see my Etsy store.

Social media is still a thing I love or hate.

One minute, I love to check things out, post images and share. The next minute, I can’t stand it and want to uninstall it from my phone (I’ve said goodbye to Twitter already).

The social media stats this month show I wasn’t really into it.

Social Media Stats:

• Facebook SYL Page – 555 likes (+25)
• Twitter (@lisajacksonSYL) – 431 followers (-19)
• Instagram Personal (@lisajacksonsyl) – 143 followers (+5)
• Instagram Business (@superstar_your_life) – 29 followers (+4)
• Pinterest (@lisajacksonsyl) – 34 followers (+8)
• YouTube – 37 followers (no change)

What I Focused On This Month

I had three main goals for August which I failed at miserably. I blame my ill health, but part of it was just lack of enthusiasm.

These were my goals and what I did on them:

Goal 1: Write 3-4 detailed blog posts

I did write one epic post all about my travels in Iceland and what you should do if it’s your first time visiting. I enjoyed writing the post so much because I got to go through my photos and remember all the good times I had there.

You can read the post here: 13 First Time Experiences You Need To Have In Iceland.

Goal 2: Pin every day on Pinterest and grow my followers to 100+

As you already know, I didn’t get 100+ followers. Not even close. This has got to change as I know traffic is the way businesses are born and made.

I have signed up to Tailwind, which is a Pinterest automated scheduler. I haven’t used it fully, but so far it has really helped me with Pinterest. What I love about it is the analytics, and how it lets you know which pins are having the most impact.

I’d love to do a review of it when I have used it more continuously.

Goal 3: Send a newsletter to my subscribers every Monday

Having subscribers is so important to a business. I know this deep down and I feel I have let my subscribers down slightly. I will commit to emailing them and motivating them in life.

What I Have Learnt In August

Blogging and online business takes time. It pulls you away from your daily life and you need dedication to keep it going. I understand why so many blogs fail. It’s not the blog, it’s the person behind it that gives up and stops. I don’t want to be that person.

SYL is more than a blog. It’s a place where I can be creative, to inspire other people, and at the same time, make an income doing something I love.

I know that this is something I want to do in the future. I want the freedom to choose whether to stay at home when I eventually have kids. I don’t want a financial situation making my decision for me.

This is my WHY.

And this is what I need to keep reminding myself of every day.

(REALISTIC) Goals for September

1) I will have posted 3 blog posts and made 3 videos.

2) My Pinterest followers will have grown to 50.

3) I will have made a structured strategy of what I will be doing for the next three months

I will do these by writing them in my diary and planning a date and time to carry them out.

What gets planned, get done.

What will you be doing this month on your blog? Have you had the same struggles that I’ve had? Let me know in the comments below.

Till next time,

Lisa x
